Dear friends, partners and community members,
After careful consideration with my team and partners, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the postponement of L.E/Miami 2020. At this time, our thoughts are with all those affected by COVID-19, directly or indirectly, personally or professionally.
L.E/Miami will now take place 5-8 October 2020. With the exception of these new dates, all other event details remain the same; L.E/Open House will take place at Delano South Beach on Monday 5 October, and the L.E/Marketplace will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from 6-8 October.
Until now, we remained cautiously optimistic that our event would go ahead as originally planned. However, in light of an accumulation of unforeseen circumstances beyond our reasonable control caused by the COVID-19 pandemic (as declared by the World Health Organisation on Wednesday 11 March) and all the subsequent governmental actions from around the world, there is unfortunately no better option than to postpone this year’s event. Our number one priority is, and will always remain, the safety of our attendees, staff and the communities in which our events take place.
In 25-plus years in hospitality, we have all become very familiar with a continuous cycle of global economic and geo-political challenges that have threatened the normal rhythm of business. Together, we have fought and overcome many challenges: terrorism threats, natural disasters, 9/11, the 2008 crash, boom and bust cycles, epidemics, pandemics and Brexit. But I can honestly say that the ever-increasing speed and magnitude of the chains of events resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak is like nothing else we have ever tackled before.
We are committed to your future
I’m sure that, like us, you will be disappointed L.E/Miami cannot take place during its normal dates, but also relieved that postponing the event will remove any lingering uncertainty. Furthermore, as community creators we have a duty of care to all of you as well as those you may come into contact with, particularly those most vulnerable and at risk, and must always act with responsibility and compassion. We believe our decision will allow all of us to not only support the effort and sacrifices made by so many in slowing down the progression of the virus and saving lives but also to focus on being one of the first communities to meet at a tradeshow in the latter half of 2020 and to kick-start the industry’s recovery.
We felt it important that this announcement came as early as possible, and not a couple of weeks before the event, so that all of you are offered some clarity and are able to plan accordingly as well as mitigate your own costs associated with attending. Please know we are here for you, ready to support you in any way we can, as our businesses navigate this uncharted territory together.
We are all in this together
For the past few weeks we’ve been saying, “we are all in this together”, and our team continues to be guided by this mantra in everything we do. Consistent with our duty of care, and our core business value of integrity, our team is committed to supporting your business during this challenging time, while also fulfilling our obligations to the many partners, suppliers and employees who have invested so much to deliver L.E/Miami 2020.
I have already been so inspired by how quickly and diligently our peers in the travel industry are responding to this crisis, working non-stop to deliver for clients and employees amidst the ramifications of a global pandemic. It is through this kind of incisive, selfless action that we can prevail.
We will be back stronger
Since L.E/Miami’s inception, we’ve referred to our collective as ‘rebels with cause’; united by a shared ambition to innovate the industry we share a passion for. Contemporary travel is all about adapting and evolving in an ever-changing global landscape, and this is our chance to show just how agile, resourceful and resilient we can be – to be the trailblazers our industry needs.
While it’s difficult to estimate how long it will take for our industry to overcome this challenge, we know from experience there is no business as resilient as travel. We have seen time and time again that when our industry suffers a setback, the appetite and thirst for recovery returns stronger than ever. And you can be sure that, when we do return, it will be for an L.E/Miami experience like no other.
We are confident that with one another’s support, our community will emerge from these uncertain times more united than ever. We look forward to bringing the L.E/Miami collective together this October, and finding innovative ways to reinvigorate our industry and move forward as a community.
Your account manager will be in contact with you very shortly to discuss next steps. I would also like to personally thank you for the support, kindness and understanding you have already shown.
Now, more than ever, we are all in this together.
Please look after yourselves and one another.

This industry is the industry of happiness. The pandemic is going to make us stronger, and better. Us, as hospitality experts, we have to stand together and show the world who we are, and how good we are globally. This is a team and we must stick together; it’s in our hands to show our clients we can do this!
